Officials were able to arrest the man who allegedly shot and killed a Pikeville police officer, Scotty Hamilton, earlier this week. The suspect was caught on Thursday (March 15) and is currently being interrogated by police.
On Tuesday (March 13) night, Scotty Hamilton was gunned down while investigating a crime in the Hurricane Creek area with state trooper, Matt Martin. Reportedly, officials came across a suspicious vehicle, and conversed with the occupants.
They then searched the area for other suspects when a gun was shot. The trooper later saw the officer with a gunshot wound. After the shooting, police were searching for the suspect.
On Thursday, they were finally able to arrest 55-year-old John Russell Hall of Pikeville at around 11:00 a.m. in the Stoney Brook area of the Betsy Layne community in Floyd County. An arrest warrant was obtained and Hall was charged with possession of a handgun and murder.
After his arrest, Hall was taken to the Pike County Detention Center. As of now, he has not yet entered a plea. Officials are still investigating the case and interrogating Hall to find out his motive behind killing a police officer.
