One police officer and two sheriff’s deputies were shot Friday morning in Locust Grove, a rural area southeast of Atlanta. The officers, from two different police departments—two from Henry County and one from Locust Grove—were taken to nearby hospitals. Their conditions are currently unknown. The gunman was killed.

Officers were serving a warrant at the time of the shooting. One of the injured officers returned gunfire and killed the shooter. The Georgia Bureau of Investigators is investigating the shooting, which took place at the Hawthorne at Linden Park subdivision in the 1200 block of St. Francis Court.

Police have blocked off multiple entrances of a subdivision and are turning people who don’t live in the neighborhood away.

Yellow police tape cordoned off the front yard of the home where the shooting happened. Police say they aren’t looking for any other suspects.

The shooting of the three officers has elicited a number of responses, including this one from the Gwinnett County Police Department.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Henry Co Sheriff’s deputies and Locust Grove officer who were shot this morning in Henry County. We hope they survive their injuries and make a full recovery.”
