Suspected DUI Driver Kamal Attoh Hits Family of Four, Mother Dies

On May 16, Kamal Attoh was arrested after allegedly hit a family of four with his car, while being suspected of driving under the influence. Attoh stayed at the scene, and the investigation is still ongoing. 

Kamal Attoh, 37, was driving near Turtle Rock Drive and Ridgeline Drive when his car hit the family walking near the intersection. His white SUV then swerved off the road and into nearby bushes.

Witnesses claimed that the mother was found under a tree, and the father was under the car. The mother succumbed to her injuries. The father was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

The two teenagers, a girl and a boy, were also taken to hospital for treatment.

Authorities were called to the scene at around 8:00 p.m. Neighbors left their homes to help, saying they heard a loud sound.

Officials arrested Kamal Attoh, but have yet to confirm whether or not he was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Because of the accident, Irvine Police Department tweeted that Ridgeline will remain closed after the traffic collision.
