Police are searching for a gunman who shot at cars on the freeway in San Francisco on the morning of January 15, 2018. We have all of the latest information right here.
A Number of Victims
At approximately 3:00 a.m., San Francisco police and the California Highway Patrol began receiving calls about someone taking shots at cars on the southbound 280 at Alemany Boulevard.
By the time police arrived, the shooter or shooters were gone as were many of the victims.
Officials are largely keeping mum as they try to piece together what happened. We do know that there appear to be at least three to six victims. A number of people ended up driving themselves to the hospital. The state and severity of these injuries are currently unknown.
A Challenging Investigation
As for the perpetrator of the crime, that too is currently a mystery. Authorities have not disclosed whether they have a suspect in mind or if there could be more than one gunman.
Shell casings were found at the scene, but officials would not comment on what type of gun was used.
One of the issues facing detectives is that the crime scene is split between where the shooter was firing from and the moving cars. There is also the possibility that some cars were shot at but the drivers were uninjured. Consequently, the owners of those vehicles may be unaware of the evidence their car is hiding at this exact moment.
The San Francisco Police Department and California Highway Patrol are very anxious to find the culprit as this shooting could yet result in incredibly serious consequences for the victims.
