A suspect broke into a residence at the Cooper Road Plaza Apartments located at 2929 Peach St. on May 8, and shot Michael Smith, 45, to death. Authorities now believe that the assailant was Rotrick Dean Ivory.

A detailed description of Ivory was not provided. Police did, however, mention that he lives in the 500 block of Melrose Street in Shreveport.

Investigators believe that 29-year-old Ivory broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment. Initial reports said that the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute.

Police believe that it is possible the gunman and victim knew each other. A woman, who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting, is also suspected of knowing the shooter.

Police spokesperson, Marcus Hines said, “Authorities believe Ivory arrived at the apartment home of his ex-girlfriend, seeking out her new male acquaintance. It was during that time Ivory is accused of shooting Smith.”

Ivory reportedly fled the scene in a white Chevy HHR with after-market rims. Smith was shot at least four times, and pronounced dead on the scene. His autopsy report is yet to be released.
