Quentin Lamar Smith is the suspect who allegedly shot two police officers to death in Westerville, Ohio on February 10, 2018. Officer Eric Joering, who was 39 years old, and his colleague, Officer Anthony Morelli, who was 54, were the victims allegedly gunned down by 30-year-old Smith.
Westerville Police Chief Joe Morbitzer explained that the two late officers were responding to a potential domestic fight related to a 911 hang-up call on Saturday.
After they showed at the residence, the police officers were shot.
Joering passed away at the scene and Morelli succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Reportedly, the 911 call was made by Candace Smith from her phone. Twice the line dropped; on the third call, Candace Smith revealed that she was hiding in the bushes outside her home. She said she was scared for her one-year-old daughter, who was in the apartment with her husband Quentin Smith.
On the 911 call recording, you can hear Candace crying and saying, “Please help, please help, please help. My husband…he shot the police officers. Please hurry up.”
After the incident, Quentin’s neighbor said that they’d heard gunfire from the house, where the occupants were forever arguing.
Old police reports also reveal that officers had been multiple times to the Smith home to handle fights or deal with him since 2017.
