Students and staff of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School were running helter-skelter even as 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz kept firing bullets all around. Cruz was feared at school and later expelled for his behavior. On February 14, 2018, all hell broke loose.
17 people are dead already and more might die in the mass shooting incident that happened at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Broward County, Florida, on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. According to sources, the man responsible for this bloody massacre is 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, a former student at the same school.
Sheriff Scott Israel of Broward County said that Nikolas Cruz had previously attended the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School but was expelled after getting into trouble. He later enrolled in another school in Broward County itself. Cruz was arrested within a few hours of the shooting. We bring you some details from Nikolas Cruz’s wiki.
Described as a Troubled Kid
After the shooting, people who knew Cruz described him as a “troubled kid” who enjoyed showing off his firearms and whose mother was forced to call the police several times to come to their home and talk some sense into him.
Expelled from School
A student at the school, who did not want to be identified, said about Cruz, “He always had guns on him. The crazy stuff that he did was not right for school, and he got kicked out of school multiple times for that kind of stuff.”
Adopted as a Child
Nikolas Cruz has a brother named Zachary, and both the boys had been adopted by the Cruz family. Their adoptive father died a few years ago, and the boys were living with their mother Lynda Cruz who regularly had problems with them.
A neighbor, Helen Pasciolla, said about the mother calling the police “I think she [Lynda] wanted to scare them a little bit. Nikolas has behavioral problems, I think, but I never thought I would be violent.”
Disturbing Social Media Posts
Sheriff Israel has said that the authorities do not yet know the motive for the shooting but are investigating his social media accounts to learn more about him. He described the social media accounts as “very, very concerning.”
Guns Everywhere in His Home
Cruz’s Instagram page shows him holding firearms and ammunition which is used in a semiautomatic AR-15 rifle. One photo shows several guns, including rifles with scopes, laying on a bed, while another shows a frog that appears to have been killed.
Well-Liked at His Work Place
After Cruz was expelled from Douglas High School, he took up a job at a Dollar Tree store a little away from school. A person who probably works there said on Wednesday evening that Cruz worked as a cashier and was well liked by his colleagues at the store. The person said, “He [Cruz] was a great guy.”
Jim Gard, a math teacher at Douglas High School, said in an interview that Cruz was his student during the first semester of the 2016-2017 school year and was quiet and not disruptive.
Could Be a Stalker
After the shooting, Mr. Gard said that several students told him that Cruz was taken with a girl at the school “to the point of stalking her.” One student told the media that students would joke that if anyone were likely to open fire inside the school, it would be Cruz.
Was Feared and Avoided
That’s why the students feared Cruz and tried to stay away from him. The student said “A lot of people were saying that it would be him. They would say he would be the one to shoot up the school. Everyone predicted it.”
Was Happy Despite Expulsion
Another student at the school said that when he visited the Dollar Tree store to check on Cruz, “He said he was expelled and was happy that he was thrown out. I felt bad for him.”
