Nadine O’Dell: Missing Teen Another Possible Victim of Arthur Ream

Michigan authorities are continuing the search for the remains of up to half a dozen girls in Macomb Township. The young girls, like Nadine O’Dell, went missing decades ago. Authorities believe that convicted predator, Arthur Ream murdered these girls. Nadine O’Dell went missing in 1974, and is now believed to be a victim of Arthur Ream.

Who Is Nadine O’Dell?

Arthur Ream is a convicted predator serving a life sentence for the murder of Cindy Zarzycki. While in prison, he reportedly bragged to fellow inmates of killing four to six people.

Based on the tips from Ream’s inmates, authorities are back to the same Macomb Township area where Zarzycki’s remains were found. Michigan law enforcement and the FBI are excavating the area for the remains of more young girls who went missing years ago.

They first started looking into the possibility when Kimberley King’s case was reopened. Now, investigators believe that King, Kim Larrow, Kellie Brownlee, and Nadine O’Dell were killed by Ream, and buried in that same site.

Investigators believe that the girls didn’t know each other. But they were all in their teens when they went missing. Ream, who admitted to having a fetish for teenage girls, was previously convicted for sexually assaulting a child.

Nadine O’Dell was 16 when she went missing on August 16, 1974. She was last seen walking down John Daly Road in Inkster, about 20 miles west of Detroit.

The Case of Nadine O’Dell

Brenda Lee Handloser, Nadine’s younger sister, has been searching for her sibling for over four decades. Nadine was the second oldest child in the O’Dell household. Handloser was only nine when her sister disappeared, never to be heard from again.

Nadine O’Dell was born on March 14, 1958. She would’ve celebrated her 60th birthday in 2018. Her missing persons report describes Nadine as a white woman with strawberry blonde hair and green eyes.

Handloser said that Nadine often babysat her siblings and other kids. She had no issues as a teen, according to Handloser. “I just remember her as a very quiet person. She played with us and she babysat a lot.”

She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and baggy blue jeans. She had her boyfriend’s high school class ring on a chain around her neck.

A Missed Meeting

According to reports, Nadine O’Dell was on her way to babysit her boyfriend’s younger siblings in Taylor. They were supposed to meet at a halfway point, and go to his house together.

However, when her boyfriend arrived at their decided meeting place, there was no trace of Nadine O’Dell. She never made it to Taylor, nor back home. Handloser said that Nadine disappeared before she could make it there.

Handloser recalled that Nadine’s boyfriend came to their house to inquire her whereabouts. “He was like ‘Where’s Nadine?’ She wasn’t there and that is how it all started.”

Handloser and her husband, Chris, haven’t stopped searching for Nadine, though she’s considering the possibility that her sister is dead. With authorities suspecting that Arthur Ream is a serial killer, she believes her sister’s remains are in that wooded site.

Brenda and Chris Handloser drove to the dig site believing it is the “final chapter” in her search for her missing sister. Handloser, like the other victims’ families, is hoping for closure once the bodies are found.

“I want to bring my sister home and lay her to rest,” she said. “I don’t care if it is a bone or a piece of hair, a nail, I don’t care, I just want my sister. She is out there somewhere laying in the ground or wherever.”
