Multiple Arrests Made in Connection with Murder of Scotty Hamilton

Five people were arrested on Thursday, March 15, 2018, in connection with the killing of Officer Scotty Hamilton, and were charged with hindering prosecution. The main accused, John Russell Hall and four others are all being held at the Pike County Detention Center. Police said that the four helped transport Hall after Hamilton’s murder.

People are still mourning the death of Officer Scotty Hamilton, who was shot and killed in the line of duty late Tuesday (March 13) night in the Hurricane Creek area of Pike County, Kentucky. Hamilton was helping Kentucky State Police, along with state trooper Matt Martin, investigate a crime when he was shot.

Main Suspect Arrested

Kentucky State Police immediately investigated the killing, catching and arresting a 55-year-old suspect named John Russell Hall of Pikeville at around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018.

Police arrested Hall in the Stoney Brook area of the Betsy Lane community in Floyd County, Kentucky, and have been interrogating him to find out his motive behind killing a police officer.

Four Charged with Hindering Prosecution

Hall has been charged with the murder of a police officer and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Also arrested on March 15 were Michael Slone, 39, of Lexington; Gregory Slone, 54, of Pikeville; Amanda Dotson, 37, of Island Creek; and Jeanne Blackburn, 44. They have been charged with hindering prosecution or apprehension in connection with Scotty Hamilton’s murder.

Abetting a Suspected Killer

Kentucky State Police said that Michael and Gregory Slone were charged with hindering prosecution, while Gregory has also been charged with promoting contraband. Police said that Dotson and Blackburn helped transport and hide Hall from police after Officer Hamilton’s killing.

According to police, Hall contacted Dotson and Michael Slone and asked them for transportation to a different location. Dotson arranged for the vehicle, and the two picked up Hall and drove him to Greg Slone’s house. All four were at Gregory Slone’s house when the police arrested Hall, and they reportedly knew very well that Hall was wanted by police.

Hall Pleads Not Guilty

Another person, Curtis Hall, was arrested at the scene of the shooting on Tuesday (March 13) when police found him hiding in the bushes in a yard. John Russell Hall has been charged with murdering Officer Scotty Hamilton, but has pleaded not guilty and is being held in the Pike County Detention Center without bond.

The four arrested on March 15 are also being held at the Pike County Detention Center. Meanwhile, police and the community are feeling the loss of Officer Scotty Hamilton and are praying for him and his family.
