A Woodland Elementary School teacher was arrested after allegedly exposing himself to a boy in a Walmart bathroom.
Jared Anzelone of 390 Hartford Avenue and a fourth-grade teacher in Milford, Massachusetts, was placed on paid administrative leave following his arrest on May 23.
Authorities claim that on the evening of May 21, Anzelone masturbated in a bathroom stall at a Bellingham Walmart and exposed himself to a minor.
Anzelone graduated from Framingham State University with both an undergraduate degree and graduate degree in elementary education.
The Incident Occurred between 5:40 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Bellingham Police Lt. Kevin Ranieri said that the boy entered the restroom between 5:40 and 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The juvenile told authorities there was only one person in the bathroom when he was there.
According to the police, Anzelone, 40, bent down in the stall next to his and exposed himself to the boy, who reported the incident to an assistant store manager. He described Anzelone as wearing dark dress pants and fake leather pointed toe dress shoes.
Officials were able to identify Anzelone after Bellingham Police posted photos of him from security camera footage on their Facebook page.
Uxbridge and Milford Police notified the Bellingham station to report that teachers in their towns identified the man as Jared Anzelone. He later contacted officials saying that others questioned him about the Facebook post.
When the authorities questioned him, Anzelone said that he used the store’s bathroom for around 20 minutes. However, he denied the allegations made against him.
Anzelone’s attorney, David Albert, said that the accused is “in total shock.” He explained that his client is unaware of the incident but saw photos of himself being circulated online.
Milford Public Schools Superintendent Kevin McIntyre said that he is also disturbed by the allegations and Anzelone’s arrest. He maintained that the school’s priority is their students’ safety.
Anzelone worked in the district for 11 years and has one class with approximately 20 students.
McIntyre explained there were no previous issues with Anzelone and that an internal investigation is underway.
Anzelone Was Released without Bail
Jared Anzelone faces charges of indecent exposure; open and gross lewdness; lewd, wanton and lascivious conduct; as well as accosting or annoying another person.
At his arraignment on late Wednesday (May 23) afternoon, a not guilty plea was entered on Anzelone’s behalf.
Prosecutors requested a $2,000 cash bail and that Anzelone wear a GPS monitoring device. However, Judge Robert Calagione released Jared Anzelone without bail and instructed him to stay away from the alleged victim, persons under 17, as well as the Bellingham Walmart.
