Former Richardson, Texas Mayor Laura Maczka and her husband, Mark Jordan are currently facing federal bribery and corruption charges over their Palisades project. Keep reading for more about Mark Jordan.
When plans for 1,000 apartments in Palisades, Texas were made in 2015, residents were not happy, and wrote over 300 letters opposing the project.
Despite the protest, Richardson City Council approved the required zoning changes requested by Mark Jordan’s company.
Though Laura Maczka was initially against zoning changes to build more apartments, her mind changed for the Palisades project. It was later revealed that Maczka and Jordan were dating, and that she worked in his company.
An ethics investigation followed, and in April 2015, Maczka decided to not seek a second term as mayor. Although the investigation didn’t find evidence to suggest that Maczka or the City Council broke state or city ethics rules, a federal grand jury reached a different conclusion.
The current indictment against them states that “Jordan paid Maczka over $18,000 in cash and $40,000 by check, paid for over $24,000 in renovations to Maczka’s home, paid for Maczka’s luxury hotel stays and airfare upgrades, and provided Maczka lucrative employment at one of Jordan’s companies.”
Mark Jordan Graduated from the University of Oklahoma
In 1991, Jordan graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in business. He is a licensed broker in the state of Texas, and is a member of the Prestonwood Baptist Church.
He Is Currently a Managing Member of JP Realty Partners
Before working at JP Realty, which is described as a “full service commercial real estate management firm,” Jordan worked with Block Investments, where he “directed real estate acquisition and investment efforts for more than 1.5 million square feet of commercial properties.”
Prior to this, Jordan was an advisor of commercial transactions, with a focus of management, purchase financing, and underwriting, for REIT.
After over 20 years in the industry, he became the co-founder of Sooner Management, and managing member of JP Realty Partners Ltd. There, he executes long-term plans, handles investor relations, and looks at different aspects of operations.
He Is Married to Laura Maczka
Laura Gibbs Maczka was the Mayor of Richardson from 2013 to 2015. She is the only sixth woman elected to the City Council in the past 40 years.
Maczka is currently the executive director of the nonprofit Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NTFE) in the greater Dallas area.
The couple are now facing seven counts in the indictment. If convicted, they can be sentenced to between two and 20 years in jail.
