In Richmond, California, 29-year-old Mark Henderson was shot dead, marking the area’s second homicide in three days. These killings mark the first for the city in nearly five months.
Mark Henderson was shot in the 4900 block of Hartnett Avenue at approximately 9:00 p.m. on April 9, 2018. Though he was taken to a nearby hospital, Henderson succumbed to his injuries.
Second Shooting Since Weekend
On the afternoon of April 7, a 20-year-old Antioch, California man, Javoni Foster, was shot in a car near the 1000 block of South 55th Street. He managed to drive a short distance toward Crescent Park before crashing.
He did not survive and authorities are still investigating, hoping to make an arrest soon.
Before the incident, there had been no homicides reported in Richmond since November 25, 2017. Foster’s slaying ended the longest period of time without a murder in the city’s history.
The only thing police have revealed about Mark Henderson’s murder so far is that he was also shot near Crescent Park. The crime scene may just be a coincidence.
No arrests have been made, as officials are still trying to determine how many people were involved in the shooting.
In a text, Lt. Felix Tan, spokesperson for the Richmond Police Department, added that they have not yet been able to determine a motive and the investigation is still ongoing.
Tan also reassured residents that the homicide rate is still low and at this time, there is no reason to believe that will change.
