Man Admits to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police That He Killed His Girlfriend

In Charlotte, North Carolina, police are investigating a murder. But they didn’t have to go far, as the man who reported it also admitted to being responsible.

Man Went to Police Station to Turn Himself In for Murder

At approximately 1:40 a.m. on May 10, a man named Michael Duane Brown, 31, arrived at their station and admitted to that he shot and killed his girlfriend in their apartment in the 10700 block of Point South Drive. He drove himself from the Point South Drive area, off Carowinds Boulevard and South Tryon Street.

When police arrived at the apartment, police found a woman’s body and confirmed she was deceased.

Ongoing Investigation

The woman was shot to death. She is revealed to be 27-year-old Whitney Jo King. Upon further investigation, an infant boy was found in a different part of the apartment. The child appeared to be unharmed and has since been placed in the hands of protective custody.

Police began to search the suspect’s car for potential evidence. The car had been parked at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police’s Steele Creek Police Division since the suspect arrived there to report the murder.

Brown was arrested and charged with King’s murder. He is currently being held at Mecklenburg County Jail, and is expected in court on May 10 at 1:00 p.m. Details on what exactly happened to cause the incident remain unclear, however witnesses in the area reported hearing a loud argument. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
