Two weeks ago, we wrote about the case of Lorenzen Wright, a former NBA player who had been murdered and dumped in a field. The case had been cold for years, but it heated up in November 2017 with an arrest. On December 15, 2017, another person was arrested for Wright’s murder: his ex-wife.
Lorenzen Wright’s Murder
Lorenzen Wright had been a great basketball player, but by 2010, he was retired from the game and having money troubles. There were unsubstantiated rumors of issues with local drug dealers.
On July 18, 2010, Wright went missing in Memphis, Tennessee. His body was found in a field, bullet riddled and ravaged by the elements, on July 28.
While there was plenty of speculation about what may have happened to him and who was involved, Wright’s murder went unsolved for years.
A Break in the Case
Fast forward to November 2017. A gun was retrieved from a lake in Mississippi. After ballistics tests were done, it was confirmed that the gun was the same one used to kill Wright.
That evidence later led police to charge 46-year-old Billy Turner with first-degree murder. This was followed by the arrest of Wright’s ex-wife, Sherra Wright-Robinson.
The Arrest of Sherra Wright-Robinson
Wright-Robinson was one of the last people to see Lorenzen Wright alive. She has denied having anything to do with the murder.
Many people, including Wright’s family, were suspicious of Wright-Robinson, as she received $1.0 million from her ex-husband’s insurance policy upon his death.
Wright-Robinson was arrested in California. She is waiting to be extradited to Tennessee to face charges including first-degree murder.
Regarding the connection between Wright-Robinson and Turner, media reports say that they attended the same church where Turner was a deacon.
Turner has pleaded not guilty to his first-degree murder charge and remains in custody.
