A Facebook Live video shown to New Philadelphia Police Chief Michael Goodwin helped to locate two men who are accused of animal abuse.
Chief Michael Goodwin wrote a post on the New Philadelphia Police Facebook page, saying that the video showed two young men recording baby opossums. He explained that they were “torturing one of the animals by using a butane torch.”
After seeing the video, officials were able to identify the suspects as 21-year-old Brent Vickers Jr., and 18-year-old Justin Brill.
According to officials, both confessed to the crime. Brill was charged with animal cruelty, and was arraigned in New Philadelphia Municipal Court on May 11. His bond was set at $125,000.
Vickers was charged with complicity, and will appear in court on May 17. In the Facebook post, Goodwin wrote that he does not know if the opossum survived.
