19-year-old Nikolas Cruz was expelled from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland earlier. On Wednesday, Cruz went to his former school and killed 17 people. The question being asked is, “What gun was used in the Florida shooting?”
17 people were killed and several others were injured when expelled student Nikolas Cruz went to his former school with a gun and started shooting everybody. He also had several magazines on him.
According to Sen. Bill Nelson, Cruz wore a gas mask and was carrying smoke grenades. Cruz had “set off the fire alarm so the kids would come pouring out of the classrooms into the hall. And there the carnage began.”
Mr. Nelson is not sure if Cruz used the smoke grenades, but it’s assumed that that’s why he wore a gas mask.
Weapon Used in Florida Shooting
According to sources, the weapon used in the mass shooting was a variant of the AR-15. It is a famous rifle which is based on the military’s M-16. The rifle falls more under a category than a particular weapon.
The name AR stands for ArmaLite rifle, named after the company that created the weapon.
The AR-15 rifle can be customized and comes in a lot of varieties, each with its own set of characteristics. People who own this rifle can mix and match different elements like stocks, grips, and, barrels.
The AR-15 rifle, like the M-16, is a gas-operated, air-cooled, and, magazine-fed weapon. It is not the first time that AR-15 was used in a mass shooting. Previously, it was used during the mass shootings in Newtown, Aurora, Colorado, and San Bernardino.

He Was Obsessed with Weapons
Matthew Walker, who goes to Stoneman Douglas, revealed that Cruz would show off knives and guns on his social media accounts. He said, “He was going class to class just shooting at random kids. Everything he posts [on social media] is about weapons. It’s sick.”
Sources further claim that Cruz’s deleted Instagram account also had a lot of images of guns, ammunition, knives, and shooting images.
His classmates also revealed that he would often joke about guns and would talk about them a lot.
A lot of people took to Twitter and started discussing how there should be gun control so that shootings like this can be controlled. Christopher Zullo tweeted:
18 students killed in Parkland Florida by an AR-15 assault rifle. We don’t need your thoughts and prayers. We need #GunControl. No one should have access to this type of weaponry. You don’t need an assault rifle to take down deer or 1,000 rounds of ammunition to protect your home

A lot of people supported his tweet, but others have different opinions. We need to wait and see what the Government of Florida will decide to do. Nikolas Cruz has been taken into custody, and investigators are dissecting all his social media profiles.
