By all accounts, Glenn Doss Jr., 25, just wanted to try to make the world a better place. He studied therapy and psychology before deciding to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a cop. According to his father, Doss quickly fell in love with the job.
Doss had been dating his girlfriend Emily Crouse for eight years when the couple discovered that they were going to be parents. Their son, Eli, was born in 2017.
Glenn Doss Jr.’s Death
On January 24, Doss and his partner, Samuel Anderson, responded to a call involving a domestic dispute and possible shots fired.
As the officers pulled up to the residence, they saw a man standing outside the home with a weapon. The man reportedly opened fire before the officers even had a chance to get out of the car.
Doss was shot in the head and chest and driven to Detroit Receiving Hospital by Anderson. The shooter barricaded himself inside the home.
Police captured a suspect after flooding the home with tear gas.
According to relatives, Decharlos Brooks, 43, suffers from mental illness and may not have been in his right mind when he allegedly shot Doss.
Once Brooks was arrested, he was charged with eight counts of assault with intent to murder, seven counts of resisting and obstructing, one count of carrying a dangerous weapon, and 17 counts of felony firearms. Those charges may be amended with the death of Glenn Doss Jr.
Friends of the family set up a GoFundMe account to help Crouse with medical and living costs before Doss succumbed to his injuries. The campaign has collected over $37,000 in donations.
