A 23-year-old man is in custody after coming to police with a story about killing his own father with a knife in Elsberry, Missouri.
A Knock on the Door and a Confession to Murder
23-year old Brandon Spies came to the door of the Elsberry Police Department on Saturday, March 17 and began to bang away at it until someone came to see him. When an officer finally opened the door, Spies said a short and simple sentence: “I murdered my father.”
According to Spies, he and his father got into an argument. When the argument became heated, he stabbed his father in the neck with a knife.
The police then proceeded to head to 700 block of Lincoln Street. They first found a bloody knife. Shortly after, they found Spies’ father, 53-year-old Richard Spies, dead in the basement.
Brandon Spies has been charged with second degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held at the Lincoln County Jail under a $500,000 cash only bond.
