Colts Linebacker Edwin Jackson Killed in an Accident by a Suspected Drunk Driver

Indiana State Police recently revealed that NFL’s Colts’ linebacker, Edwin Jackson passed away in a road-traffic accident. The suspected killer was reported to be intoxicated when the accident took place.

How Did Edwin Jackson Die?

Authorities explain that Edwin Jackson and 54-year-old Jeffrey Monroe were standing outside a stopped car on the emergency shoulder of the I-70 highway.

Police authorities claim that the reason Monroe pulled over was that Jackson was not feeling well. That is when a vehicle rammed into the rear of Monroe’s car and killed them both.

Jackson and Monroe died at the accident scene. The accident was discovered by a State trooper on the West of Holt Road a little before 4:00 in the morning.

Who Killed Them Both?

The suspected drunk driver is 37-year-old Alex Cabrera Gonsales, who was driving a black Ford F-150. Authorities claim that Gonsales fled from the accident scene on foot, but he was found shortly after.

Authorities also believe that Gonsales was driving under the influence of alcohol and without a driving license. After his arrest, Gonsales was taken to the Marion County Jail. As of now, the toxicology reports are still pending.

Statement Released by the Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis Colts linebacker released a statement on Sunday which read, “We were heartbroken to hear the news of Edwin Jackson’s passing. Edwin was loved by all in the Colts organization. We admired his outgoing personality, competitive spirit and hard-working mentality.”

The statement further read, “He was well-respected among all with whom he crossed paths, and he will be greatly missed in our locker room and throughout our entire organization.

We also understand that another person lost his life in the accident, only adding to our sorrow on this day, We are shocked and saddened by this tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of both men during this difficult time.”

Statement Released by Uber

Following the tragic accident, Uber also released a statement which read, “Like so many who are mourning, we are heartbroken by this news. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, the Colts, and the entire Indianapolis community.”

In 2016, Jackson started half of the Colts’ regular-season games and spent his last season on injured reserve. A lot of his friends and fans were heartbroken to hear the news of him passing away.
