DeLand Police Searching for Suspect in Violent Home Invasion

Police in DeLand, Florida are on the hunt for a suspect in a violent home invasion that left one man dead.

Details on the Home Invasion

DeLand police responded to a call in regards to shots being fired at 612 Ambrose Street at approximately 4:52 a.m. on May 9. When police entered the home, they quickly discovered a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Details on the home invasion itself are not public at this time, but it has been reported that the suspect barged into the home before shooting the victim. Police are currently working with another person who was in the home at the time for a description, and possible clues to the suspects identity.

Shooting Victim Dead in Hospital

DeLand police launched into a search for the suspect in the surrounding area. Helping DeLand police in their search were K-9 units from the Edgewater and New Smyrna Police Departments.

The victim, 22-year old Michael L. Dixon, was transported to Florida Hospital DeLand. Despite the quick response, Dixon succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Given the nature of the crime, the suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous.
