It’s a sad day for the Clinton County officers as they lost a dear friend and colleague in a crossfire on March 6, 2018. The suspected shooter was holed up inside a residence and fired at the officials, killing one and injuring two others. Find out the details of the grave event.
What Happened In Clinton, Missouri?
Sergeant Bill Lowe spoke to the cameras about the shooting incident and the death of an officer, early on March 7.
With a heavy heart, he explained how the entire thing went down, starting with the 911 call.
Lowe said that the Clinton County 911 call center received an emergency call at around 9:20 p.m., and over the phone, two women who appeared very scared were screaming in the background.
The officers immediately responded and reached the residence around 9:25 p.m. Upon arrival, at some point in the time after they approached the house, they were shot at. In the shooting, one officer lost his life, and two others were injured.
Lowe said that the injured officers were immediately rushed to a hospital for treatments, and it was later learned that they had sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The cops, after being fired at, began to engage in fire and planned to make a move towards the inside of the house, where the shooter had hidden himself.
Around 12:10 a.m. on March 7, the SWAT team entered the premises, but when they looked inside, they found that the shooting suspect was already dead. Whether it was a self-inflicted wound or he was fatally injured in the crossfire, is at the moment kept under lock and key.
Bill Lowe mentioned that at this point they couldn’t reveal any more information considering the nature of the incident, but he was happy to clear any further complications of the case.
What Are the Further Developments?
Lowe continued to talk about what happened at the Missouri home, and when asked about the women heard in the background, he said the officials were not sure about their current whereabouts.
At the time of the crossfire, the officers are sure the suspect was inside, but since it is still early on in the investigation, they’re not sure how many others might have been in the house. They confirmed that the women who were heard on the call were not injured.
Sgt. Bill Lowe said that the deceased officer was with the department for three to four years and recalled the death of another officer, Michael, who died in the line of duty.
Officer Michael died just seven months ago, which was also a big loss to the department. Numerous agencies assisted, including Clinton PD, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Lowe also mentioned that the reason for the police officers entering the home in an attempt to apprehend the suspect is still unknown. The Drug and Crime Control division is investigating, and the women in question are yet to be interviewed.
