Charles Nichols’ Body Found in Oberst Street Investigated as Homicide by Syracuse Police

A body found in Syracuse, New York’s north side on Monday (May 7) is now officially being investigated as a homicide. This is the latest on the investigation into the mysterious murder.

A Body Found

On Monday, May 7, Syracuse police headed to the 100 block of Oberst Street after getting a call from a concerned citizen at approximately 9:30 a.m. When they arrived, officers discovered the body of a man they believed to be in his 30s, lying on the ground behind a vacant house.

A medical team quickly arrived at the scene, and determined that the victim was deceased. No cause of death was revealed at the time. It did not appear as though the body was behind the vacant lot for a long period of time.

Victim Was Shot to Death

The victim was later discovered to be 37-year-old Charles Nichols. An autopsy later revealed that the cause of death was a gunshot to the chest. There are no suspects at this time. Police are also unsure of when the body appeared behind the vacant home.
