Brianna Ashanti Lofton: Woman from Raleigh, NC, Who Was Arrested for Making Her Baby Smoke

Brianna Ashanti Lofton has been arrested after a video allegedly showing her one-year-old smoking went viral. Locals were able to pinpoint who the parent and child were.

Facebook viewers in Raleigh, North Carolina, recognized enough clues from the viral video to figure out who it was. Now, Lofton is awaiting the full consequences of her actions.

Video Posted to Facebook Goes Viral

An outraged Facebook user re-uploaded a video that she saw elsewhere on the social media site to Raleigh Police’s timeline. The video featured a baby sitting in a chair, when an adult hand comes from off-screen holding what appears to be a small cigar, or cigarillo.

The small child then inhales and exhales the smoke. The person who re-posted the video urged police to look into the matter and arrest the child’s mother. The videos appeared to have originated from the Facebook page of “Bree Bhadd”

Police Intervention

After getting numerous tips and help from various people and Facebook users, Raleigh police were able to track the video to 20-year-old Brianna Lofton. She has a one-year-old child and lives at the 4700 block of Caldera Lane.

The video footage was enough for a search warrant, as well as charges to be laid. Lofton has been charged with two counts of felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, plus two counts of contributing to delinquency, and possession of marijuana.

The child has been taken in by Wake County Child Protective Services. Lofton is currently at Wake County Detention Center under $100,000 bond.

Lofton had previous run-ins with the police before, the most recent taking place in August 2017, when she was arrested for assault.
