A shooting reportedly occurred at Seminole Towne Center in Sanford, Orlando on Monday night. According to the media statement by the police, authorities responded to a shooting in the mall’s parking lot outside a Burlington store.

The police spokesperson, Bianca Gillett, said that cops found a man injured with multiple gunshot wounds at the scene. The victim, so far identified as a 19-year-old male, was rushed to the hospital and treated for life-threatening injuries. Gillett stated that his condition is not critical anymore.

The police report says that the shooter is still at large and that no arrests have been made so far. Authorities are currently working on evacuating and securing the area as a precaution.

The incident is under investigation, and authorities believe the victim is known to the suspect. Gillett said that the victim was with a group of individuals in the parking lot when the shooting occurred. The circumstances of the shooting are currently not disclosed.

Police also said that after the shooting, the suspect fled in a black, newer model, four-door vehicle. The initial description of the gunman provided states that the suspect is a black male, approximately 5’10” to 5’11”, wearing a navy blue shirt.

The latest updates report that police have identified the gunman. However, they haven’t disclosed the details.

No other victims were reported. Police said no shots were fired inside the mall. Nevertheless, the Seminole Towne Center was deemed an active scene. The area was evacuated, and all entrances to the mall have been shut down.

Investigators are currently looking for witnesses who may have been with the suspect. More details are awaited on the incident.

Florida is still reeling from the high school massacre of February 14 where Nikolas Cruz opened fire on unsuspecting students and teachers.

Gillett further assured, “A shooting should never take place in this vicinity. Again, we are not sparing any expense. We are doing everything in our power to thoroughly investigate this in a systematic way that will hopefully lead us to the shooter very quickly.”
